Let me try and figure this out. Fast Eddy must have promised Alliant a certain number of students, or said there would be 'no problem' getting a certain number of students--say 75 - 100 for the first semester.

Then if word of mouth would be good, and the financial freebies flowing, maybe the rate of enrollment would increase so that in a couple of years, Alliant would be 'handling' 2500 students at a time...all with government funding/student loans, (loans which are now higher than they used to be).

But several questions have arisen about this venture--the cost, of course. Ability to transfer credits. Actual value of course material, i.e., is Alliant really teaching, or is it a diploma mill? Another large issue is, why replace a cost effective option with a much more expensive option? That is something perhaps only Fast Eddy can answer, as he must somehow be the beneficiary of all this down the road...he never seems to do anything just because it is the right thing to do.

One more large question has been brought up--and that is that the National City Adult School was built on land owned by the Transit Authority, and leased to the Adult School. Therefore, is Fast Eddy's plan in violation of that lease? Did Fast Eddy bother to check? Or did he think that this entire school district was in the palm of his hand, and could be manipulated mercilessly for his benefit?

Are there answers to these questions?

Shall I venture a guess or two?

Funding is always a priority with community groups, so I will go out on a limb and say that Fast Eddy probably mentioned that there could be advantages in teaming up.

He very well might have said that he is connected with various groups that give out scholarships, which would help all the students that South Bay Community Services is working with.

Fast Eddy (in my opinion) used South Bay Community Services to give the impression that he works with the community--when nothing could be further from the truth!

Obfuscation, confusion, misinformation, disinformation--a sad example of what we are given to work with in Sweetwater Union High School District. What's worse is that the driving force behind all this hijacking of public education is Fast Eddy's greed--yet unchecked.

Ed comes up in searches on google for blacks beach, ventana national bank, metabolife, pam davis and ed brand. So be entertained at his escapades.

Ed Brand + Blacks Beach= I would need chlorine for my eyes if that came up.

As the old saying goes, "There is no honor among thieves".

Now that Brand has cast aspersions, implicating McCann, Quinones and Lopez, what is his next move?

It is as if Brand must have decided who is expendable and who still has something he needs. Jim and Arlie, hmmm, what makes them so special? They've been around since Brand's first go 'round as superintendent, so maybe they are privy to things Brand doesn't want to get out.

But then, Ed Brand likes to cultivate new friends, so he might have already moved on. I am pretty sure Bertha Lopez knew Brand would do his best to make her look bad. It isn't really a secret that she has been shown disrespect by Brand and the other board members. McCann and Quinones, however, must be wondering what happened. Unless Brand has convinced them that this is part of a complicated plan that will eventually prove them blameless in the end. Hope they aren't falling for that one.

Time for people to start telling the truth, and see where that gets them--for a change.

All the hallmarks of a Brand scheme are here--the jobs for pals, the government funding, and students getting the short end of the stick and more empire building for the grandmaster of disaster, Fast Eddy himself.

What does it take to get the documents the public is entitled to? Court orders? Then (as was suggested earlier in the comment section of another article), what if the documents appear to be altered. How can anything be verified with this bunch, as they continue to operate as if they are completely outside any laws, rules, regulations or ethical boundaries.

It's even worse that we thought. The mayor of Palm Springs recently had to personally intervene when Filner visited the "Marilyn Forever" statue there. Bob apparently stood underneath the giant statue, looking up Marilyn's dress for about 15 minutes. Tourists got very uncomfortable and called the police.

Ok, when your spokesperson does not know who was on the committee, what does that tell you? That the committee probably consisted of Ed Brand, his dogsbody and ?, who knows? Maybe no one, because maybe this was 100% Ed Brand--with no checks and balances.

We all know how well that works.

Then--to admit the plethora of issues/problems Mr. Alt comes with. (Again, why call him Dr. Alt if his degree is meaningless)?

Why would Ed Brand want someone like this? Because he will not question all the crazy schemes Brand comes up with--Alt, apparently, is ok with crazy schemes.

Not what this public needs or wants. Not what the students and the teachers need or want.

But isn't it really all about what Fast Eddy wants? Don't we all exist to serve his ego and enrich his bank account? Education, what's that? Just another word to take to the bank for Fast Eddy. Credentials? Can be bought. Ethics--something Fast Eddy doesn't know anything about and doesn't really care, as evidenced by his actions all these years.

What else can be said? Ed Brand is a scheming, lying, devious, larcenous blowhard who seems to know how to attract others just like himself.

the district borrowed $4.6 million as a capital appreciation bond in April 2011. The loan will eventually cost the taxpayers $54.2 million.

ANYONE who borrows on CAB should be FIRED. Anyone. It is unbelievable that anyone in education is this god damn stupid.

As if Sweetwater didn't have enough problems, we need to import Al Alt, poster child for (again) what we don't want our children to grow up to be--along with the rest of the indicted majority board?

Once Sweetwater attains critical mass of corruption, will it implode just like the power station? We must be approaching that point...unless Ed Brand is thinking of springing Bernie Madoff from prison and hiring him.

Actually, Brand might well contact Bernie for some strategic planning assistance. Bernie is possibly one of the few who could actually advise Brand, as Bernie was able to hide his indiscretions for decades.

Let's see, who else can Ed Brand call upon for guidance? Ivan Boesky? Some of the more adept insider trading moguls? After all, Ed does aspire to play with the big boys...he's always cared about as much for the students of this district as Bernie Madoff did for all the investors he stole from.

So, Eddy--how's your education these days? Are you learning enough about stripping the future from the next generation of Sweetwater students? Or are you planning on obtaining another advanced degree, say in Overweening Contempt for the Public with Special Emphases in Arrogance and Conspicuous Ethical Disregard?

Chula Vista Elementary School District's motto is "Each child is an individual of great worth."

Ed Brand's motto for Sweetwater might just as well be "Each child, parent and taxpayer is a potential mark and source of money for us (my loyal voting block and myself) to scam, extort and bleed dry."

Yes, in case anyone has still been wondering, this latest escapade amply demonstrates what Ed Brand is really all about: lying, stealing from others, creating an atmosphere that misleads, colluding with other staff members (definition being conspiring to commit a fraud), being a public source of misinformation...I could go on and on.

This is the way Ed Brand does business on a daily basis: he has done this when it comes to his CIF Grand Designs, he has done this with all the cancellations of successful and needed programs throughout the Sweetwater UHSD, he has done this via underhanded agreements with universities (one a Christian "for-profit), forcing public school counselors into strong-arming a quota of Sweetwater students into taking classes their parents will have to pay for--when our taxes are already paying plenty.

He has diverted and misdirected funds so that Mello-Roos monies are misapplied; he has mandated the maximum annual increase in our Mello-Roos fees while not applying those fees in the correct and legal way.

He has done his best to keep information from the Bond Oversight Committee, trying to keep them in the dark so that they can't track down the full extent of his wrongdoing.

He has publicly shown his lack of respect for all of us: students, parents, teachers, taxpayers through his extreme arrogance and bald-face lies.

The lady for whom the auditorium at Eastlake High School is named, Ruth Chapman, was known to have said: "If Ed Brand's lips are moving, he is lying!"

That is the one thing that can be relied upon with Ed Brand.

It is long past time for this community to be done with Ed, his lies, his schemes and his vicious, bullying personality.

Let us all show up at the board meeting this Monday, and tell Fast Eddy exactly what we think of him and his lying, thieving ways.

Ed Brand answers to the board, well sort of, and they apparently agree with all that he is doing. Or should I say all that they know he is doing. Lets face it, we have a group who is mired in attorney debt, 500k maybe more. They are not paying much attention to the goings on at SUHSD, instead they are attempting to shrug it off with words of "I am guilty of asking for a dinner for my favorite charity" - really, I have read all of the transcripts the UT has released to date, and based on what I have read the trials will do much to expose the true larcenous nature of this group.

It is time for a new board folks, the pretenders like Jim Cartmill, Arlie Ricasa, and Pearl Quinones can retire to the ranks of "when I was a member of the SUHSD board", you know like Mccann does with his "when I sat on the City Council speeches" - somewhat to akin to the stories many of our dads told "you know, back when I was a kid I had to walk 10 miles through knee high snow to school WITHOUT ANY SHOES". Like all of us their families will listen, eyes rolling, mouths yawning, and mind chatter going "here we go again".

I first met these Usual Suspects at a gathering of Ali BaBa & The Forty Bankers facilitated by Ed Brand & Tom Hassey. The Metabolife founder was invited by Ed Brand the School Super to pitch the group for 2hrs on Trust Me Only I Know The Way. The Bank organized but did not open due to financial issues and leadership concerns. An so the saga continues. bankalchemist.

It seems that Ed has a scheme (read shell game) up his sleeve about Adult Ed. Seems he is likely to 'gift' the former Adult Ed. facilities to private vocational educational enterprises... hope he hasn't thrown the Adult Ed baby out with the bathwater. The last I heard, future Adult Ed funding will flow from the State ONLY IF the district maintains the level of spending on Adult Ed in 2012-2013.
Ed prefers to play with the big-money folks, like the private schools (Grand Canyon U., Boston Reed). Wonder how they are showing their 'gratitude' for access to the SUHSD market, especially now that Ed has removed the 'low-cost' district funded competition? Another big SIGH!

National City a long way from Scripps Ranch

Ed Brand and Alliant University want faster action from planning commission

Many people were surprised to see Sweetwater superintendent Ed Brand appear at the August 19 National City Planning Commission. Brand left a regularly scheduled Sweetwater board meeting shortly after it convened to attend the meeting ...

eastlaker June 10, 2013 @ 12:04 p.m.

Yes, well, friends of Ed Brand have never really known how to comport themselves...Brand himself has a reputation as a bully and general 'operator' or operator wanna-be.

We wouldn't tolerate this from students, and we have teachers employed by this district encroaching on private property and attempting to remove a sign? Seems to me there are a few violations there.

It is time for honesty to return to Sweetwater. Mr. Mercado, there is work to be done in Sweetwater, work that Ed and his cronies don't seem to know how to do.
