Yes and no. People who tend to shop at Ralphs and Vons are mostly just looking for a cart full of groceries. Whole Foods' (and other "upscale" groceries) customers are definitely looking for definite vibe at the grocery store, hence the fact that such places hire cool kids and hipsters to work the checkout counter. There's no doubt that some grocery stores are cooler than others, and it's telling that Vons is trying its hand at generating a similar image for itself.
