Welcome to the new Center for Shell Games, brought to you by Fast Eddy and Friends!!
Opening soon in a strip mall near you!!
You pays your bucks you gets your diploma/certification/credential!!
Qualifying students may apply for loans and grants, and carry those loans for decades!!
Who needs to save for a down payment on a house or condo when you are still paying off those school loans...too bad Fast Eddy got away with tearing down all those adult school programs so he could turn around and install the for-profit "schools"---
Can we all keep our eyes on Fast Eddy and his friends, as this plays out? Because I wouldn't be too surprised if there are "understandings" in place to ensure comfy corner offices for select members of this corrupt bunch!
Sweetwater Union High School District, Where Quality Education is Fast Disappearing!
Sweetwater Union High School District, Where the Students are Commodity #1!
Sweetwater Union High School District, Where the Board of Trustees Couldn't Figure Out Right From Wrong If Gabriel Himself Was Blowing His Horn!
Let's hope that National City's Planning Commission will consider ALL the facts at the upcoming meeting;
1) including the exact language of the land lease which provided the site courtesy of the Metropolitan Transit District (NC Councilwoman Rios is a member of the MTS Board and should be able to obtain a copy of the lease);
2) reported use of Redevelopment $$$ to build the facility --- what were the conditions made by the Redevelopment Board at that time --- the site was built as an Adult School;
3) the extent to which the Sweetwater District has already decimated the FREE Adult School programs that once occupied the site, including ESL, entry-level career training, basic skills, etc
4) the DETAILS of the Alliant proposal, including the costs of the PRIVATE college classes proposed and how students will be enticed to take out pricey loans, in addition to any available financial aid in order to pay for limited classes of dubious worth that are proposed
They want to railroad this through BECAUSE it won't stand up under examination. Which points to the great likelihood that they are attempting to pull yet another fast one...
This community needs to learn from past experience and give a loud "NO!" to the schemer and his schemes!
And I hope they do not succumb to any pressure to rush such investigation.
Why is almost everything Sweetwater works on "Time Sensitive"? They do not have to have classes starting so soon. They could easily have classes start in the Spring, to allow time for all these processes to be set in place properly. What is the phrase? P*ss poor planning on your part does not constitute an urgency on my part.
Trustee for a University that was fined for falsifying records for Pell Grants?
AND WHAT PRAY TELL OF THE THE STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THAT CORRUPTION? WHERE ARE THE NOW?
We have a Chamber representative and Mayor rushing to get the Alliant deal passed, disregarding the fact that Ed Brand failed to follow the rules and regulations of how things should be done in National City. What, Ed Brand, Ms. Reyonoso, and the Mayor do not believe the community of National City should be protected by following written National City law? I sure would like to see Ed Brand attempt to do the same thing up north in his gated community. No way would the Mayor of Escondido or a member of that Chamber allow such tactics.
Surely the residents of National City deserve better representation
Please take the time to consider the cost difference between taking the classes at Southwestern vs. Alliant. Why saddle these young men and women of this community to be saddled with major debt? Yes why? What is in it for those who are hell bent on pushing this thru.
Perhaps Ms. Reyonoso and the Mayor should explain why this is so important - ALLIANT IS GETTING FREE RENT! AND THE STUDENTS ARE ENCUMBERING THEMSELVES IN MAJOR DEBT.
I must wonder if Ms Reynoso is speaking only for herself or for the National City Chamber of Commerce? Has the Chamber deliberated on this issue?
Seems to me that she has a responsibility to differentiate between her presence as an official rep of the Chamber or as an individual who perhaps has a vested interest in the high-cost private 'colleges' of dubious reputation.
The nerve of Ms Reynoso to be telling the Planning Commision what their job is. Based on what I've read about their last meeting, it sounds like they know exactly what their job is and acted to protect the public they represent. Let's hope the commissioners don't allow themselves to be bullied. By the way, everyone should read the Don Bauder link. Pretty shady outfit. Is Ms Reynoso still a trustee of United States University?
anniej --- you are on target! As the Bauder article earlier this year confirms, these high-priced so-called 'universities' are all about the money...put another way, it's about their recruiters getting 'butts in seats'.... They are usually just a couple of steps ahead of the law, but by the time they are closed down, they are running again under another name and the 'students' are left with massive debt and little marketable skills.
Why don't the elected officials in National City INSIST that the robust Adult School programs be restored? They should ask ED why he decimated the Adult School program and instead is touting what the community does NOT need, or deserve.
Now, that would be worthwhile civic action because the FREE adult school programs REALLY do good (isn't that what public education is supposed to do?) and improve the community social fabric and the lives of the residents.
Oh, and by the way, there is a Southwestern College Educational Center campus in National City. Check it out! There is an award-winning dental hygiene program there and other career preparation opportunities as well as regular classes to begin college studies that will lead to transfer.
Southwestern College is a low-cost public community college, not a private high-cost diploma mill.
What I still don't understand is how you can offer a 4-year degree in 10 classrooms. I'm told that to get some types of financial aid you need to be taking a full-time course load. Are there any counselors out there that can shed some light?
Another question: Where will the students take the Introduction to Biology Lab class? Adult schools only have computer labs?
Then there's their Cancellation Policy: The University makes a every reasonable effort to offer courses as announced. However, the University reserves the right to modify the class schedule ( fair enough) or to cancel courses if necessary. Hmm, if classes aren't filled and are canceled, where does that leave students who need a full-time schedule (12 or 15 units) to get their scholarships?
Question: Alliants old name was United States International University. Reyonoso is trustee for Unites States University.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???????
see the dirt pit is getting bigger and bigger. skeletons are starting to come out....Reynoso you sure you want to jump into the snake pit with fast eddy?
Oh Fast Eddy better pull up them knickers dude you got caught with your pants down. You are screwing the kids you say you care so much about. You are not in this for the kids you are in it because you are going to get some kind of payoff. How much cut did you offer the Mayor of NC and that Reynoso chick? Hmmmm inquiring minds want to know. Will the planning commission do the right thing? Hmmmm inquiring minds want to know. Will they be bulldozed by Fast Eddy and his slick talking? Will they do the right things or slide into the same pit as SUHSD?
BTW Fast Eddy get your board member mccann off the airwaves he really isnt that important for people to know even when he takes a bathroom break. What about the other dude? Has he said I am sorry that I caused the accident? Cut it out already enough is enough. BTW if SUHSD is his only job to get back too I wonder what he does with the other 30 days of the month.
Just had the best laugh of my life. I read the letters to the editor for the Star News and saw 3 people supporting mccann. What a freaking joke. Maybe they should go to one of these meetings to see what a dweeb he is. I am still laughing about their comments. Everyone on this blog should send letters to the editor of the Star News about this last melt down he had among all the others, email@example.com.
Petty. Behavior that is not even adolescent...yet again McCann demonstrates poor judgment. This individual simply does not know how to act in a dignified manner. It seems he must resort to threats of higher authority being on his side--fairly typical compensatory behavior, and not indicative of any insight into himself, others or how the public views him.
Perspective? What's that to McCann, because he is still the center of his own universe, pre-school mentality personified.
Of course, this is just the side-show of the circus of Sweetwater. The light distraction welcomed by Fast Eddy, the ringmaster, because this allows Eddy's smoke and mirror act to gain momentum. Eddy is hoping the public never really figures out what is going on. Sorry to disappoint, but we have over 3000 pages of testimony, and that provides this community with a clear vision of what has been going on here.
Ed Brand and his rubber-stamp, Loyal Voting Block board are not to be trusted. As has been said before, the public needs to watch carefully, needs to hold 'feet to the fire', needs to crack down on all the unethical behavior that has been going on. The intolerable behavior will not be tolerated.
Mr. Mccann, as a previous City Council member is well aware of the dangers that Chula Vista police officers face each and every second they are on the job. Why, would he, of all people, choose to USE them? Mccann was advised where he could pick the sign up at, it was Maxwell street. On top of using the police he also used city personnel, when they were forced to drive around and pick up his illegally placed signs on Main Street, Olympic Parkway, and near Hilltop High just to name a few. But the real question is WHY? WHY DID JOHN MCCANN PUT 3 YEAR OLD CAMPAIGN SIGNS OUT TO BEGIN WITH? My opinion, name recognition; but here are the facts, we know who he is and we are more than aware of all that he has failed to do and WE WANT HIM GONE! The students and taxpayers of the South Bay want representation by those who understand the meaning of integrity and are able to lead in a dignified professional manner.
How embarrassing that other REAL public officials had to witness what we, the community, endure each and every month. Perhaps now, finally the State will step in and bring this three ring circus to an end.
Let us consider the fact that while Mccann was stomping around whining about a $2.50 sign Mr. Calhoun was doing a presentation on student safety followed by a budget presentation by Dr. Alt. Is there now any argument that perhaps Mccann has his priorities mixed up?
Where pray tell was Ms. Ricasa with one of her now infamous respect speeches. IF Mccann truly was in control of his emotions or if the district business at hand were a priority he would have had his booty in that chair paying attention to the business at hand. Mccann, it is time to hang up your boring speeches and your political hat - turn out the lights, the party is over. We want a real community servant, not a temper throwing brat sitting at the dais.
What a DB!!!! Wasting Chula Vista's tax payers resources for a stupid sign!!! He's a coward and a bully. He's a coward for having the police do his dirty work and a bully for taking it to that level. Why would the city of Chula Vista want someone like that in charge?
What does this say to his character? McCann's ego is out of control, where's your compassion? Do you not see how outraged the community is over the boards behavior? Can you not put aside your precious ego and let something trivial go? No you had to call your mommy (CVPD) and have them take care of it for you. Is this how you will waste tax payers money if you ever make it in to city hall? I fear for repercussions from you Mr. McCann because of you treated those people. May GOD have mercy on the city of Chula Vista and the employees of SUHSD.
LOSER, or should I say POOR LOSER?
P.S. bravo to the folks that spoke their minds about the school board and how disrespectful they are to the Sweetwater community.
Mr. McCann can you spell L O S E R!!!!!!! Your really need to find your way home from the yellow brick road and stop pausing in the poppy fields for a nap. Your hallucinations are getting the best of you. I am gone for one meeting and look what i freaking miss. Holy shit this guy is freakin bonkers. He walks out on a safety presentation because someone took his pretty little sign. BOOOOO HOOOOO stop winning and put on your big boy underwear.
I thought he was a war hero. When he put the signs up he should have camped out in the trenches to defend them. Your such a wuss you make our guys in uniform embarrassed every time you give one of your war stories at graduations.
Go away and crawl up into a fox hole you are an idiot!!!! BTW I almost busted a gut when I read all of the people that sat there and watched you have another melt down. Bet you didnt know that they were there. Them public officials dont like to see idoits hold office. I wonder how you are going to do damage control on this one. Are you going to call and cry and say the public is such bullies booo hooo.
Mr. Cartmill yet another meeting you can't control. How could you let this idiot call the police you have a board member out of control. Ms. Ricasa i got to agree with anniej where was one of your stupid ass speeches now.
There is no way i am going to miss another meeting..........
Jaime Mercado for school board in 2014 - the former board member who refused to accept even a free cup of coffee paid for by a vendor.
McCann is a bully and would-be despot. Best to keep him away from any authority and/or public money. See how desperate he is! The more desperate he becomes, the more out of control. Implosion is likely.
go to bed John, it's over. You have had yer day and that was so yesterday, it's laughable.
