This place overlooks Lake Henshaw on Hwy 76, just west of Hwy 79. I've been here twice in the last year, the first time was not during a lunch/dinner time, and it was great. This time, as early diners on a holiday Monday - 4:00PM - one server was already rushing to take care of four tables. The kid's grilled cheeses were served on burnt bread, but they thought it was okay when they'd bite into the sandwich and the melted cheese would stretch out over a foot long. I ordered the standard $8.99 BBQ dinner special, choice of brisket, pulled pork, or chicken. I incorrectly assumed the meat would come on some kind of bread or roll. It didn't. Just about five bites of warmed wet pork with about two tablespoon's of BBQ sauce on the side. Not enough for dipping or pouring over. Both the pork and sauce had a good taste though. My baked potato wasn't baked, but microwaved, and served already cut in half. Since when do you serve a baked potato already cut in half? Only when the cook has to cut it to make sure its done. It wasn't. No apologies from the waitress. I had to ask for my cornbread, which was supposed to be part of the special. My wife's vegiburger was excellent. The sodas come it really huge Mason jars, plenty to drink. However with a McDonalds, Subway, or taco shop in every small town now, these roadside places that depend on people driving by to stop, can't afford to do things wrong. So here's one more - every serving dish, from the sides of apple sauce to the soda jars and coffee cups, were glass or ceramic dishes. Except the main courses, which were served on white, plastic, cafeteria style plates. Why?

My wife and I were staying in a cabin on Palomar Mtn. over Valentine's Day weekend and decided to have dinner Valentine's Day night at The Round Up BBQ Grill. We heard from locals that there was going to be music so we thought it might be fun. We didn't have reservations and judging by the full parking lot we weren't sure if we would be able to be seated. But to our surprise, when we walked in the friendly hostess assured us it would be no problem and seated us promptly. It was decorated nicely for the holiday, and the band playing was great - a nice mix of romantic and upbeat songs. The place was packed and the staff handled it very well. That night they were serving prime rib that had been cooked on their woodfire barbeque. It was the the BEST prime rib my wife and I have ever eaten. It was a great night and most importantly my wife enjoyed herself. We will definately be back.
