Special Collections & University Archives at SDSU's Malcolm A. Love Library has been collecting science fiction since 1977, when SDSU English professor Elizabeth Chater began donating her personal collection. Especially strong in Golden Age and New Wave science fiction, the Chater Collection is distinguished by a number of notable first editions, as well as numerous rare pulp titles. These original holdings are expanded by significant donations from William D. Phillips, Jr., Larry McCaffery, and an extraordinary recent gift from Edward E. Marsh. Many other gifts and acquisitions round out the collection to provide a comprehensive representation of the entire genre. With nearly 5,000 titles and still growing, as well as several related archival collections, the science fiction holdings in Special Collections have garnered San Diego State University attention as one of the finest collections in the nation. Join us as we celebrate the fantastic world of science fiction through this one-of-a-kind multimedia exhibit.
The exhibit will remain in Love Library's Donor Hall through August 25, 2013. For information on visitor parking, please call 619-594-6671 (after hours 619-594-1991). Disabled access is also available. For more information, visit us at library.sdsu.edu/scua
