Also 2165 Avenida de la Playa, La Jolla, 858-459-3921. Not much retail cheese anymore. They still have all-cheese sandwiches but now specialize in overstuffed spit-roasted meat sandwiches like lamb and roast beef. Inexpensive.

Sometimes the service here can lag...but the waiters are all so nice, you don't mind.
An incredible value. I've gotten a few different breakfast plates. And I was with one friend that only likes eating at Denny's (yeah, these are the friends I sometimes roll with; what can ya do?). He thought the breakfast selection here was better than Denny's.
I also loved their pastrami sandwich when I was in for lunch.
When we couldn't decide on dessert one time, our waiter scored us 3 chocolate chip cookies. Free.
Gotta love that.

By far my favorite place to get a vegetarian sandwich when I was a student at UCSD back in the late 1980s. I went to the La Jolla Cheese Shop. Just a lovely, lovely feast of vegetables piled on top of delicious bread.
