The ampitheater at Mt. Helix. The park and ampitheater were built, and dedicated in 1925, as a memorial to Mary Carpenter Yawkey who lived in San Diego during the last years of her life. The mountain was undeveloped at that time, but Mary loved to acend the trail to the top, to watch sunrises and sunsets. Her children, Cyrus Carpenter Yawkey and Mary Yawkey White devised the park as a way to honor her memory.
