Biker Babes in North Park

Posted on Street Style blog in Reader on May 13

"Biker clothes are pretty cheesy. Harley Davidson is the worst. Everything is so tacky," Carney said.

Added Morrill, “Most of the biker stuff for women is really manly."

Both women agree that Icon, a biker line, has the best gear for women.

Morrill wore a pair of biker boots from Cyclegear and salmon colored cords from Anthropologie. Morrill is a make-up artist for Mac.

When asked how men react to their motorcycles, Morrill said that the guys that don't ride are usually intimated by her mode of transportation.

"This is such a big part of lives that we usually only date other bikers," added Carney.

Carney wore a Forever 21 vest. She is a hairstylist at Lab Salon Lab Salon in North Park.

Santos - hidden gem for self-sequestration and quiet work time.

Following comes from May 8 story in the Reader.

There are coffee shops that buzz with the jittery excitement of the overcaffeinated, and there are coffee shops that provide a cozy, out of the way nook for anyone who needs peace, quiet, and a cup of joe. Santos Coffee House in North Park is definitely one of the latter. It occupies an otherwise quiet section between the busy hubs of North and South Park, which keeps it chill and provides an option for snacks and coffee in an otherwise residential bit of the neighborhood. More compact than some of the other, sprawling coffee shops in town, Santos’ design is chic without being cutesy, bohemian without being grungy.

They roast their own coffee right in South Park. And it’s tasty! Flavored coffees may offend the coffee snob out there, but for those of us in the 99% the occasional cup of chocolate macadamia nut (or whatever is being brewed) is a delight. Santos’ flavored coffee selection dwarfs other roasters’ offerings, which helps the hidden shop stand out.

There’s not a ton of food to eat, but a menu of $5 bagel sandwiches offers something to help fuel the coffee buzz. A few of the sandwiches use the combination of cream cheese/meat/veggies to create flavors that evoke mid-summer garden parties, as though a hostess will soon pass with a tray of tiny, crustless cucumber sandwiches. This too adds to Santos’ charm as a secret garden of sorts.

It might be fruitless to head to Santos in search of the lively coffeehouse culture of a place like Lestat’s, but beleaguered freelancers in search of a temporary office will revel in Santos’ chilled-out coziness and mugs of hot coffee to keep the creative juices flowing.

Shop Locally!!!! Many of the privately owned stores that once lined University Ave and El Cajon Blvd are just empty store fronts coated in graffiti, boarded windows and vandalism. We've lost the cozy charm of our neighborhoods to Walmart and internet shopping.

Where I come from in Chicago, the boxes pizzas are delivered in generally taste better than San Diego pies, but there is an outstanding sneak joint I'd like to recommend. If the lines are too long at Lefty's, keep heading south on 30th and turn left when you hit Thorn. Located as far off the beaten path as one might imagine, De Luca's Pizza is positioned smack dab in the middle of a residential block at 3226 Thorn St. The $25 special with the works is as big as a coffee table and can probably feed 6 to 8 hungry eaters. (The box is so big I couldn't fit it in the oven to keep it warm!) Tell them you'd like it crispy and enjoy!

Whoever keeps stealing and blowing up my recycle bin and pooping by my dumpster on Utah needs to KNOCK IT OFF! What is your major malfunction anyway? If we catch you we are going to make you pick your poop up with your mouth then we will make you eat that poop then we will all poop on you and make you eat our poop.

Yes! Should I post a picture? One time in FRONT of the dumpster and it looked like someone slid in it and it blocked the whole front so we had to go to the side to open it. Today there is a giant turd right next to it!! WTH they aren't even using TP!! And there is an empty smaller trash can they could have just pooped right in that!!

post some plastic grocery bags with directions, on the fence or pole by your dumpster for use like a dog poop bag, directions can reads something like:

POOP IN THE BAG

TIE THE BAG

DISPOSE OF THE BAG

maybe a roll of toilet paper to show you care

They need to fix the pot holes on 30th. Also there is a purple dildo on the corner of 30th and Lincoln if someone lost it, well that's where it is

I think they should paint the water tower with art. There is art painted everywhere in NP why not that big dull gray canvas?

Coco's on El Cajon Blvd. closed down. I never went there anyway, so no biggie. There's no shortage of places to eat along there.

That's the truth! Where's your favorite spot on ECB? I'm so spoiled for choice I end up eating something boring.
