Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon
Published Nov. 19, 2008
Kevin Bacon is coming to town! Nope, not to do his daytime job of spitting out lines from a script. Rather, he'll be spitting into a mike as part of the duo with his not-so-famous brother. The Bacon Brothers appear at the Belly Up with Michael Tiernan on Thursday. Now we can all take part in that whole Six Degrees thing, right?
Friday, check out System of a Down's side project Scars on Broadway at HOB. SOAD members Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan take the stage with their latest bandmates. Duke Spirit opens.
Lasers, fireworks, cameos – action! All of that (and more) when Trans-Siberian Orchestra takes the stage at San Diego Sports Arena on Saturday. William Crain's Of Note praises the over-the-top orchestra for creating a timeless holiday tour. So, this is what Christmas on steroids looks like.
Listen up, guys! Barnaby Monk's Club Crawler has a pretty good suggestion for date night on Sunday. GWAR is going to rock HOB, and Monk says that your lady will be impressed by how "you’re all fun and into some pretty heady dance jams." There's nothing like some satirical heavy metal to get you in the mood.
Quirky folk-pop sweethearts Whispertown2000 stop by the Loft at UCSD on Sunday.
As if there weren't enough lasers for one week, the Australian Pink Floyd Show keeps the party going at Copley Symphony Hall on Monday.
New Kids on the Block have reunited to bring back some of that '90s magic one more time. Not too fast – Jay Allen Sanford's Blurt shows what they're asking for in return. The boy band phenom takes it step by step at Cox Arena on Tuesday.
Now…something for the kiddies. Metro Station and Tyga headline Soma on Wednesday. And after MTV wonder duo Shwayze canceled their part of the tour last month, White Tie Affair has helpfully filled the bill with Cash Cash.
Ken Leighton's Blurt talks to local rapper Kayo about the hardships of breaking ground in Daygo's hip-hop scene. You can show your support by checking him out with Deep Rooted, the Knee Highs, Young Mass, Addiquit, and Miki Vale on December 14 at the Casbah. It's going to be a noteworthy show, considering that it's the Casbah's first local rap showcase.
Mower is under the microscope in this week's musician interviews. Front man Brian Sheerin dishes on Mower with a set of Slower and why it's fine if fans aren't pleased with the music they make. How very punk rock.
