Of Pigs and Palaces: The Story of Porcelain

Porcelain, a pure white, high-firing clay that at its finest has the translucency and resonance of glass, was first discovered in China. There it was formed into elegant vessels for the nobility and later produced on a larger scale as a luxury export to the Middle East, Europe, and beyond. Meher McArthur, independent Asian-art curator, will discuss the origins of porcelain, the styles produced for domestic and foreign patrons, and the related wares of Korea and Japan.

Coach Zoran and His African Tigers

South Sudan became an independent state in July 2011, following almost 50 years of civil war. The new nation forms a national soccer team, led by Zoran Đorđević, a dynamic and ambitious veteran coach from Serbia. The film follows the team over its first year. Speaker and discussion after film.
