Cirilo Arenas Velasco

When deputy Agustin Rostras asked Cirilo Arenas Velasco for his driver’s license on May 30, “He said his license was suspended,” according to Rostras. Then the officer asked Velasco for some form of ID and “He identified himself with a prior citation.”

Velasco, 40, listened to testimony against him in San Diego Superior Court yesterday, June 18. The defendant had assistance of a Spanish-speaking interpreter.

The deputy testified that he pulled Velasco over after 10 p.m. on South Santa Fe Road for a faulty headlight three weeks ago. He noticed the driver’s severely dilated pupils and “He couldn’t stop moving his arms and hands,” according to Rostras..

The deputy said he found 1.7 grams of methamphetamine in the center console of the car, and Velasco later tested positive for methamphetamine. Velasco was arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving on a suspended license, and possession of meth.

The defendant pleads not guilty, is currently in custody at the Vista jail with an immigration hold on his case, and is next due in court July 2, to set a date for trial.
