TURNING UP MY HEARING AID SO AS NOT TO MISS A WORD — "The State of your County Government is good," said Dianne Jacob, speaking slowly and distinctly to her visibly graying audience. "But I don't want to settle for good. We have too much to do on so many fronts. On energy. On public safety… And now even more on aging."

Most of the audience broke into applause at the announcement, with the notable exception of Cindee Dewbottom, who was attending the event as part of her 10th grade Government class. "President Obama said that the future belongs to young people," she observed. "Old people have had their day in the sun. Now it's our turn."

Who is that man standing behind her? Could it be the Sheriff of Nottingham, er, San Diego County, the (in)famous Bill Gory, er, Gore? What in inbred group of politicos, indeed.

Whaddya mean, satire? That's a direct quote from Jacob's State of the County address. And the President really did say that the future belongs to young people.
