(No longer in business.)
Saturday night my husband and I went to a concert at Balboa Theater, afterward we decided to walk down to Quality Social for a couple of drinks. After walking a half a block on 4th Street I began to feel a tad self-conscious. Compared to other women in the Gaslamp I looked like a librarian. My a-line dress, cardigan and ballet flat combination looked extremely out of place among the nearly crotch baring tight black dresses, bustiers, low-cut tops, short shorts, crop tops, and sky high stilettos that is the Gaslamp dress code. In the Gaslamp, the more skin the better.

Of all the clubs we walked past, Bassmnt had the longest line. The line of scantily clad ladies and button-down wearing dudes snaked down the street. The Sundara sisters, Sharon, 26, in the black shorts with the faux garters, and Jessica, 21, in the denim jacket and circle skirt, gathered on a curb with a group of friends waiting to get inside the club. Jessica borrowed her outfit from her older sister Sharon’s closet. I think Sharon, in her shorts and see-through black lace top, was attempting to duplicate the outfit worn by Julia Roberts in the opening scene of Pretty Woman.
Down the street I found Kaity Bourus, Kelsey Mead, Natalie Lau, and Katelynn Smith. They, too, were waiting to get into Bassmnt. Kelsey (velvet pencil skirt) and Natalie (navy romper) were an interesting example of two very different degrees of sexy dressing. Natalie wore a navy blue romper with a plunging neckline. I couldn’t help but wonder how she kept her girls secured. Clearly she can’t wear a bra in that kind of outfit. A couple of questions ran through my head. Was she wearing pasties? Would she able to dance at the dance club they were about to head into, or would she be forced to stand around out of fear of a nip-slip? Kelsey, on the other hand, bared some skin in a more subtle manner. Her snug, velvet, high-rise pencil skirt paired with a crop top that showed off a peek-a-boo of skin was classy and sexy at the same time. Well played, Kelsey.
In front of the Reading Cinema, I found twin sisters Elia Pescina and Delia Pescina getting ready to hit up some Gaslamp clubs along with their friend, Denise Antillon, who was visiting for the weekend from Los Angeles.
The Pescina twins wore outfits from Forever 21.
