Something amazing is happening at San Diego Opera right now. In an opinionated industry, as we discussed with Frank Porretta, there is a consensus regarding soprano Tatiana Lisnic. Every, single person I know who has heard her in Elixir of Love has been over-the-moon in love with everything about her performance.
All the critics I’ve read have been complimentary, even though critics tend to be complimentary no matter what, these days. The people I’ve talked to who paid good money for their seats have gushed and gushed about how wonderful Ms. Lisnic’s singing has been.
Ian Campbell has scored a coup as an impresario as this is Lisnic’s North American debut. Cast member
Kevin Burdette (Dulcamara) complimented Mr. Campbell for his casting abilities and here we have proof that the SDO general director has found yet another young and amazing voice.
Everyone also seems to enjoy calling her “Moldovan soprano Tatiana Lisnic.” I didn’t know where on Earth Moldova was, so I was forced to look it up.
There are only two performances of Elixir of Love remaining--Friday the 21st at 7:00 pm and Sunday the 23rd at 2:00 pm. All performances are at the Civic Theater.
