HAUNTED HALLOWEEN COOKING
Amanda, host of the kids’ cooking show The Good Food Factory, leads a healthy and educational introductory cooking class. Each week will focus on a new mealtime: breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, and party. All recipes will be themed for Halloween. Last day of class culminates in a Halloween party. Tuesday or Thursday sessions available. $20–$90.

KAYAK CLEANUP ADVENTURE
The Batiquitos Lagoon eighth annual event allows kayakers access to enjoy a two-hour excursion on the lagoon, which is normally closed to boating, while simultaneously aiding in preserving the lagoon habitat by removing shoreline trash. The first launch is at 7:30 a.m. and the last launch is at 3:30 p.m. on both days. People age 12 or older can participate and may bring their own kayaks or use kayaks and safety equipment provided by REI. Each group will be accompanied by guides. $50.

The Discovery of Jeanne Baret: A Story of Science, the High Seas, and the First Woman to Circumnavigate the Globe resurrects the story of Jeanne Baret, an 18th-century pioneering botanist and the discoverer of the flowering vine now known as bougainvillea, who posed as a man to get aboard France’s first global seafaring expedition in the 1760s.
