Bacon Fest

August 31 | San Diego Bacon Fest: They say there’s a beer festival in San Diego every weekend. Amazingly, this is darn near true. August 31 | Del Mar Beer Fest: Longtime San Diego beer festival organizers (and nationally acclaimed brewers) Jeff Bagby and Tom Nickel are getting the band back together, conspiring to put on a free-for-all featuring 100 different brews, including 40 of some of the hoppiest beers they could get their resin-sticky fingers on where the surf meets the turf. | Del Mar Racetrack, 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, Del Mar,1 p.m.

Having taught brewing beer years ago when it was still a felony to brew your own, I am glad that micro-breweries are doing fine. Bacon does go good with beer, by the way, especially in a sandwich with avocado or guacamole. I like it with India Pale Ale (IPA) or Stout. As for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, I still insist that this is a sandwich enjoyed in Paris!

Offbeat Brewery sounds like a plan. Their Sporkupine Pale is rad!
