Are you fast enough to get out of the way? It’s $100 for each four- or five-member team to compete in this annual fundraiser for Mission Valley YMCA, and each team is guaranteed at least four games. Enjoy music, food, a costume contest, and prizes, all at In Cahoots.
The temperature outside isn’t exactly arctic, but even in San Diego the ocean water gets cold. Step (or plunge) into the Pacific Ocean to frolic. Participants may challenge themselves to see how long and deep they can go; donations benefit the Special Olympics of Southern California.

The international award–winning a cappella ensemble of eight visits to demonstrate a “surprising repertoire” spanning Renaissance polyphony to pop. The group, formed in 2003 by ex-choristers of Westminster Abbey in London, will close the St. James Music Series.

Circus Vargas raises its big top for performances around the county. Today it’s set up in Balboa Park. The circus “bridges the gap between old tradition and modern innovation.” Prior to each show, the audience is invited into the center ring for a crash course in skills such as juggling, feather balancing, and hula-hooping. Warwick’s Bookstore’s Debut Author Party for February honors Brad Taylor, who will be on hand to discuss his new thriller. Taylor quotes Orwell, who wrote, “People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would do them harm.”
