At 4:00 a.m. on April 15, people lined up outside the Vons at 450 W. University Avenue. A sale had been announced that would precede a renovation of the grocery store. (To say it was time to keep up with the Albertsons across the street is an understatement.)
A gentleman bought $1800 worth of liquor for $900. Other people stocked up on half-priced T-bones and rib-eye steaks.
The store’s crew celebrated later at the Aero Club on India Street; they will work at one of the other Vons stores in San Diego. The mood was generally upbeat.
Demolition of the store was to begin Monday, April 18.

It's about time! It's been such an eye sore for beautiful Mission Hills. Been wondering for years when they were going to either knock this place down or re-vamp it.
The Albertson's across the street needs to go next!
