The Fab Four from Down Under make a one-night stop at Balboa Theatre on their Wiggly Circus Live! Tour, featuring interactive singing and dancing for the preschool set.
Scientist, novelist, and “peace ethologist” Judith Hand visits the Women’s History Museum to speak about the 35 women who have been awarded the Nobel honor and “how women around the globe are uniting in an effort to shape a future that is more egalitarian, just, and peaceful.”

Learn the natural history of owls, bats, and other nocturnal animals living in the Los Peñasquitos Ranch adobe preserve when naturalist Brian Swanson leads a late two- to three-mile hike in search of three species of owls. Wear sturdy shoes and dark clothing. And don’t forget your flashlight!
The festivities begin at Pine Valley County Park with a deep-pit barbecue dinner and music by the Honky Tonk Kings. Come back the following day for breakfast burritos at the Pine Valley Clubhouse and a parade along Old Highway 80, followed by more food, craft vendors, a climbing wall, and more at this 40th annual fundraiser for college scholarships.

Polly want good manners? This full-day training course covers positive-reinforcement training for parrots, including cockatiels, parakeets, and macaws. A PowerPoint presentation, interactive activities, and games will aid in teaching students how to interpret their bird’s body language and solve behavioral problems.
The Old Globe Theatre presents this Sammy Cahn/Jimmy Van Heusen musical (based on the book by Rupert Holmes) about Robbo, a sophisticated entrepreneur who is wanted by both sides of the law. Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw.

Head to the Coronado Community Center to watch teams of lifeguards compete in events such as submerged-victim towing, the 50-yard-crawl with rescue tube, and the ten-pound brick carry. Competition sponsored by the American Red Cross.
Starlight Musical Theatre presents a musical comedy about working conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory, which are anything but peaceful. Songs include “Hey There,” “Hernando’s Hideaway,” and “Steam Heat.” Directed and choreographed by Carlos Mendoza.

Women’s professional tennis returns to La Costa Resort with WTA Tour players, including Ana Ivanovic, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Dinara Safina, and Daniela Hantuchova, competing for $700,000 in a nine-day tournament.

Chef Alex Carballo of Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens challenges himself and his crew to create a dinner out of food harvested that very morning from local organic farms, to be paired with beer poured directly from Stone’s fermenter tanks.

In conjunction with the Between East and West — Folk-Art Treasures of Romania exhibition at the Mingei International Museum, Kiki Skagen Munshi will chronicle “Romanian History, Art, and Lore.” Munshi is a local art dealer and former director of the American Library in Bucharest.
