Let’s hear it for equality! The Women’s History Museum and Educational Center commemorates Women’s Equality Day with this Suffrage Parade at Balboa Park. Participants are encouraged to dress in “suffrage attire” (all white with a purple sash) and bring “Votes for Women” signs.
Eric Volz, a Northern California native who earned a degree in Latin American Studies from UCSD, will read from his memoir that chronicles the year he spent “wrongly imprisoned in Nicaragua for a murder he did not commit.”

The weekend lights up with an ancient Vietnamese tradition that dates back to legends of the Han Dynasty in China over 2000 years ago. Presented each evening will be lantern parades, food, vendors, games, carnival rides, and cultural entertainment, all amidst a “breathtaking display of lanterns.” Outdoor screening of Enter the Dragon on Saturday.
The Ion Theatre Company presents E.M. Lewis’s award-winning drama about Max, a gifted high school student “falling off the edge of the world.” His biology teacher tries to help Max and ends up going on a magical journey of his own. Directed by Claudio Raygoza.

The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club’s second annual beach volleyball tournament is more about fun than competition. Fifty teams are expected to participate at Mariner’s Point on Mission Bay. Admission fee includes food, beverages, courts, balls…and awards!
