A fire broke out at the church on the corner of 30th Street and National Avenue at around 10 a.m. Thursday, November 26.

The fire at Iglesia Pentecostes Jesucristo spread to the Ideal Market Liquor Store next door. A Power Tires tire store and a document-storage facility are also on the same block of 30th Street as the church, but crews were able to keep the fire from spreading.

“Wow, it was a crazy Thanksgiving morning here,” said Jackie Lopez while gawking at the firefighters at work. “At least they got the fire under control pretty quick and hopefully no one is hurt.”

No one was at the church when the fire broke out, but about 100 people were expected a short time later for a Thanksgiving potluck meal

The fire was reported at about 9:45 in the morning. Firefighters believe it started in a back room of the church. The cause had not been determined.

Gees! It seems that this Thanksgiving Day was a day for fires. I heard about another fire in Mission Valley along the river bed. I'm glad it didn't get to be bad like the wildfires in 2003 and 2007.
