What movie character do you most identify with?

I identify with Mikey from The Goonies. I would gladly lead a group of friends to go on an adventure, looking for treasure and spooky artifacts. I like the Goonies’ diverse personalities; I’m thinking of people I know who’d be great as Chunk and Sloth. I know too many people who are like Mouth because they’re so talkative. Anyway, I further relate to Mikey because he had purpose and paid his respects to the dead.

I would say either Bruce Willis or Robert DeNiro. I guess you mean characters from a movie and not the actors. Then I’d probably pick Bradley Cooper, who played Phil in The Hangover. He was the guy that was always talking, with the long hair and blue eyes. He was kind of a jerk. In abnormal situations he would just take command.

It would be Ben-Hur. That’s because I’m a recovering alcoholic. I haven’t had a drink in two years. But it’s like bondage, and the way it is with the bottle reminds me of how things were with Ben-Hur; scenes of breaking free from jailers, being chained to prisoners, is like wanting the bottle. You get obsessive about drinking. And then to finally get your freedom.

I don’t think there’s a movie character that comes to mind. I’m kind of caught off guard with the question. There’s a musician I can relate to. That’s Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction. His sense of fashion, along with his passion for music. But mainly, I remember reading an article about him, and he showed the type of mind-set that’s similar to mine. Not just on his music, but goals he set for himself. An example would be, trying to lose ten pounds. No one can lose those ten pounds today, but if we take steps in the right direction, for just 60 seconds towards our goal, we’ve just strengthened our action-taking muscles.

The Clarice Starling character that Jodie Foster played in Silence of the Lambs. She was vulnerable at times, which enabled her to get certain pieces of information. She was also very intelligent and really knew how to handle herself in any situation. And she was faced with some very bizarre situations in that.

Kat O’Brien

I can’t say there’s one specific character. Sometimes you see a bit of yourself in various movie characters. I’d go with Bella from Twilight. She’s quiet and new to town. I’m not really new to town. I’ve lived here for a while. Her dad is a sheriff. I can’t compare the Bella from the book to the film, since I haven’t read it yet. And, yeah, I also think the vampire is cute.

  2. That's funny, Verolica. Someone called me and was chatting, and said something similar about the Dave Navarro thing. I can't figure it out. The guy was super nice. His arms were covered in ink. Not sure if they were Navaroesque tattoos, though.

This video would've been so much funnier. I had asked the kids father, and the boy gave this cute answer. He said, "I'm like Homer Simpson." I asked in what way, and he went on about his love of donuts. Awesome stuff, right?

Well...I go to get the video camera and his dad is talking to him. I hear something like "Make sure you say that," right before I get the camera rolling.

All of the sudden, he's talking about "hitting homers". When I shut the camera off, I ask the father what that was all about. He said, "Uh...I told him to mention that unlike Homer Simpson, who is lazy, he plays little league baseball. And he's hoping to some day hit a Homer."

Well, kids can't retain an answer like that. So, I got what I got, and didn't feel like starting the camera again, telling him "Just give me the answer about the donuts!"

(in my best, angry Homer Simpson voice): Stupid stage parents!

  4. I probably related best to Herbert "H.I." McDunnough's character from "Raising Arizona". For many reasons, most of which will not be discussed.

I saw "Raising Arizona" at the Loma Theater in Point Loma in 1987 (??) and loved that show!

  8. Raising Arizona might be the first comedy my family all enjoyed together. I remember being in college and my parents were watching it on HBO. I sat down and watched it with them and was making fun of Nicolas Cage playing yet another quirky character, and seeing ex-boxer Randall Tex Cobb as the crazy biker. And quickly loving every line that every character uttered.

    What a great film.

  9. I agree 100%, great show.

What I did not know until the last month or two (and certainly not back when I saw the pic in 87) is that is a Coen Brothers film.

The Coen Brothers have doen several high profile and Academy Award winning films since Raising Arizona in 87, like another favorite film of mine-O Brother, Where Art Thou.
