A mobile-home fire in Lakeside injured a woman and destroyed her residence early Wednesday morning, December 2.

The fire at Willowbrook Estate East mobile park was reported at 6:35 a.m. According to sources at the Lakeside Fire Department, the home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The fire was put out just before 7:00 a.m.

“I know she was a smoker,” said Spero Tzathas from park’s main office, which is located at the Willowbrook Golf Course. “An oxygen tank may have been involved in starting the fire.”

California Highway Patrol officer Don Coney was passing by on the way to work when he spotted the fire and hurried over to carry the woman to safety, authorities reported. He suffered smoke inhalation and burns in the process, and both Coney and the woman were taken to the hospital.

Smoking is bad for you. I can see that now. I wish I can find something to help me stop smoking. I hope that woman is okay.

Great save by the CHP Officer Don Coney! I hope that his burns weren't too bad and that he recovers quickly. I was glad when my wife quite smoking. It gets dangerous and when having children, it affects the health of the mother and child.

You mean when your "wife quit smoking", right? Not really "quite"!

When I tried smoking in high school I got sick really bad. I guess that's a good thing.

You should do a feature on heroes in San Diego and how they are doing. I wonder how bad their burns were. How's it going on the mass transit "rip offs"?
