Heal the Bay releases annual report on San Diego beaches
Barbara Zaragoza 4:30 p.m., May 25
Gyroscope Greek Café
926 Fifth Avenue, Gaslamp
619-235-4635
You want interesting food and cheap wine in the Gaslamp? Gyroscope's one of the few that has both. They have the usual medium-priced beef kabob, moussaka, spanakopita, dolmades, tiger shrimp, and steak. But also, amply filling "sandwich"-size plates for just a few bucks: beef kabob, lamb, chicken breast, and, of course, the gyro (marinated lamb and beef slices in pita bread). But what's great is that a nice rich glass of burgundy here comes cheap. Greek wine too. A gyro, a glass of wine and an outside table, and you're still spending in single digits. Even cheaper at lunchtime.
