91X targets teens with rock music and an emphasis on music over talk. Punk, alternative, and hard rock are all in rotation and local musicians get prominent play. Sugarcult and Jack Johnson owe part of their popularity to 91X. The station also hosts the popular annual X-Fest concert at Coors Amphitheater, featuring bands such as Unwritten Law and Cake.
