Come January, it's possible to find a half-dozen sources of rose-pruning instruction throughout the county. But none provide as much inspiration as the free sessions co-sponsored by the San Diego Rose Society and the city parks department in the municipal rose garden on Park Boulevard. They take place next weekend (January 4 and 5) at 9 a.m. A cadre of 15 to 20 skilled pruners will be on hand to explain basic techniques, answer questions, and oversee the participants' approach to the garden's 2500 plants. Bring gloves and a clipper and you can join them. Return in March, and you'll see the results of winter pruning.
