Okay, we're walking, we're walking...to the end of the longest wooden pier on the West Coast. Oceanside's. That's where Ruby's is. Third of a mile out to sea. On a clear day they say you can see Catalina Island. Inside, shiny Chevy Corvette red leatherette and chrome decor. You can tell this is a chain, but you forgive them. And the eats do taste great. Eggs Benedict Florentine, mixed berry pancakes, or Ruby's Skillet (three scrambled eggs, sausage, peppers, cheese, salsa, potatoes) make good breakfasts; the Super Burger (1/3 lb. with Swiss cheese and avocado) is great anytime. Come at dusk. Watch the ocean swallow the sun.
