Since 1997, the 12,000-seat Cox Arena has hosted some of the best-known performers to come through San Diego, from Pearl Jam to the Boston Pops Orchestra. Filling up more than 18,000 square feet with consistently clear sound takes a lot of equipment, beginning with a power supply unmatched at any similar-sized arena in the area -- four 400-amp 3-phase disconnects and two floor boxes with 14 each duplex and convenience outlets. Even before guest acts roll in their own equipment, the in-house sound system includes a PA system of 12 clusters with JBL Horns and patch access points for every portion of the system. The resulting concert sound is reminiscent of sitting inside a giant pair of headphones.
