1 Lego Drive, Carlsbad (off I-5
at Cannon Road exit)

Designed for children ages 3-12, Legoland is an antidote to the Disney overkill that dominates children's entertainment. With nearly everything constructed from Lego bricks (over 30 million), Legoland offers 40 interactive attractions including rides, shows, building projects, reasonably priced restaurants and shops. Divided into seven zones, Legoland is not like other theme parks. Since it's targeted to younger children, there's an absence of vacant-eyed mall rats in wanna-be gang member attire. The park is immaculate (it's only two years old) and has many "family" restrooms equipped with changing tables. The shops offer educational toys without pushy displays or "cast member" salespeople to promote their products. Birthday party packages are also available. Hours: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. weekdays, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. weekends. (Between June 23 and September 5, 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.) Adults $39; children three-16, $33; children under three free.
