4th row center: The 'movie hole'
Scott Marks 3:04 p.m., June 18
A winning political strategist (Rob Lowe) is taken by a sudden case of the guilts in this lumpy, predictable comedy. An attractive cast does its best to buoy the political satire, but writer/director Bill Guttentag has other plans. According to Lowe, “To win in politics, you have got to be the person who is willing to bring a gun to a knife fight.” This is Guttentag’s first full-fledged foray into narrative filmmaking, and someone should have told the documentarian never to bring made-for-cable direction to a multiplex. With Jamie Chung, Carrie-Anne Moss, Julie Bowen, Eric McCormack, and Saffron Burrows. 2013.
