The Doom Generation

Homosexual filmmaker Gregg Araki (The Living End, Totally F***ed Up) goes hetero, though not exactly "straight," in an épater les bourgeois abomination about an on-the-road ménage-à-trois motel rooms, junk food, belches, tough talk ("Don't get your uterus all tied in a knot" and "I'm so pissed at you I could rip your testicles off and staple them to your ankles"), sudden violence. Gags are rife; laughs scarce. Samples: an immigrant quickie-mart clerk (gag) rings up a sale for $6.66 (gag), pulls out a shotgun and blows off his own head (gag). The head sails through the air like a punted football (gag), lands in the relish tray (gag), and promptly vomits (gag). The dead man's name is reported on the TV news to be Win Cok Suk (gag). James Duval, Rose McGowan, Johnathan Schaech; cameos by Parker Posey, Heidi Fleiss, Margaret Cho, others. 1995.
