Querelle

Homoeroticism in sailor suits, in hardhats, in motorcyclist leather, and in the sort of artificial colored light better suited to a musical fantasy like Carousel -- except that the image is so dim (and perhaps just as well) you can hardly make out what's happening. Fassbinder's swan song proves to be an all too effective lullaby: soporific where it is supposed to be hypnotic. With Brad Davis, Franco Nero, and Jeanne Moreau; adapted from a novel by Jean Genet. 1982.
