Fantasy sex farce, from Blake Edwards, about a macho womanizer who is murdered by one of his conquests and then restored to life as a woman. It's not a strict case of reincarnation, since he still thinks, talks, and acts like the same man (shades here of Minnelli's Goodbye Charlie, although Ellen Barkin does much more than Debbie Reynolds in the way of Lily Tomlin-like cross-gender mimicry). The confusing situation gives rise to such sexual gaminess as the woman lecherously ogling and fondling her own breasts, grabbing another woman's breasts, etc., etc. These and other bits of naughtiness bob around like rubber ducks in a redemptive bath of social enlightenment. The production values are as old-fashioned as the moral ones (empathy for the opposite sex is achieved through maternity), with effective use of Fifties-ish, Sixties-ish studio sets and high-gloss color. Jimmy Smits, Perry King, JoBeth Williams. 1991.
