Shadow of the Wolf

Canadian superproduction of the Eskimo epic, Agaguk, about a renegade Inuit with white man's blood on his hands. ("You turned your back on the people! The spirit of the White Wolf will hunt you down!") Outside of the whale hunt, with its echoes of Jaws, what unfolds is as short on visual interest as on narrative interest. Or, in spite of the employment of screenwriting heavyweights Evan Jones and Rudy Wurlitzer, verbal interest: "I did not know I was yours." "You are." [Half-a-minute pause.] "I'm glad." Lou Diamond Phillips, Jennifer Tilly, Donald Sutherland, and (with dubbed speaking voice) Toshiro Mifune; directed by Jacques Dorfmann. 1993.
