If she was just a supremely talented filmmaker, Leni Riefenstahl wouldn't be a problem. But her fascist propaganda helped inspire the rise of Nazi Germany (Hitler called her "my perfect German woman"). So what is one to make of her? Playwright Jordan Harrison's approach is hyper-camp. The Frau is filming the story of Achilles versus the Amazons. There are stories within stories. The Diversionary production solves many of the play's intricacies. An often shrill, above-the-over-the-top tone undercut the more serious moments on opening night. The piece is definitely worth seeing. And if they tone it down, worth hearing as well. Worth a try.
