Intrepid Shakespeare's opening night had problems and glitches but it tells the story clearly. Director Christy Yael keeps the focus where it should be, and the downward flow becomes both inevitable and stark. Sean Cox's Hamlet, and some of the other performances, had a "give him a week" quality. He shot intellectual energy into the early scenes - including a knockout one with Jennifer Eve Thorn's Ophelia - but needed more in later ones. Thorn, Tom Stephenson, Danny Campbell, Jim Chovick, Tom Hall, and Eddie Yaroch do quality work. And Sean Fanning's spare gray marble set (with Hamlet's father's ghost roaming overhead) shows once again why he's such an in demand designer.
