Sarah Bates: The Lost Diaries of Elizabeth Cady Stanton
2730 Historic Decatur Road, Barracks 16, #103, San Diego, 92106
Cost: Free
The Lost Diaries of Elizabeth Cady Stanton is the second novel from former advertising executive, non-fiction writer, and journalist Sarah Bates. Her short stories have been published in the Greenwich Village Literary Review, Bravura Literary Magazine, and Out of Our Minds, Wild Stories by Wild Women, a story collection published in 2005. Bates lives in Fallbrook. The author will read exerpts.
In the book, Elizabeth Cady faces depression, a father who wishes she were a boy, and an illicit romance before she becomes a leader of the women’s rights movement. She records her struggle in diaries, but when her damaging words surface she panics and rips out the pages. Elizabeth believes the diary entries are lost, but are they?
