Summer Poetry Slam
The Full Moon Poets and 101 Artists' Colony/Arts Alive Foundation present the 17th Summer Slam competition in downtown Encinitas. Poets Call is an hour before the event at 6 pm at the front door when 17 hopeful poets will be selected from the popcorn bucket to vie in the first of three rounds of original poetry with the three top scorers winning cash donated from the audience.
Admission and participation are free. Five judges are picked at random from the audience, and poets are judged on content and presentation. The audience is encouraged to voice its opinions of the scoring. Competitors of all ages are welcome -- poets under the age of 18 will require a parent's or guardian's consent. As one of San Diego County's most popular poetry events, poets and audience come from all over the county and beyond.
This year's Summer Slam sponsors include The Grauer School and support from a grant by the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors under the recommendation of Supervisor Dave Roberts. Info: [email protected] or fullmoonpoets.org.
