Lucha Libre: Ringside in Tijuana
Masked men in stretchy pants throwing down body slams, somersaults, backflips, and trash talk en Español could only mean one thing: ¡Así es lucha libre!
Mexican wrestling differs little from its American counterpart, technically speaking. Best two out of three wins. But the camp, action, drama, acrobatics, and sporadic pyrotechnics set it apart. Tickets include roundtrip border transportation, pre-fight tacos and beer, entrance to the match, en-route libations, and a lucha libre souvenir. Turista Libre hosts a series of atypical day trips in Tijuana and northern Baja California led by an American journalist who now calls the border city home.
The group meets in San Ysidro at 7 p.m., with an estimated return to the border at 12 a.m. Tickets and more info at www.turistalibre.com.
