La Jolla Symphony & Chorus
9500 Gilman Drive, San Diego, 92093
Cost: $15 - $29
Conductor Steven Schick opens the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus’s 62nd season with the most famous music ever written, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. The classic monumentality of the Fifth contrasts sharply with the steamy sensuality of Alexander Scriabin’s Poem of Ecstasy. Also on the program are colorful sketches of newer musical landscapes: Icelander Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s beautiful Aeriality and Bryce Dessner’s Lachrymae. A free pre-concert lecture is given by the conductor one hour prior to concert times.
