Dia de los Muertos Tijuana Tour
The annual passing of Día de los Muertos calls for a visit to a pair of Tijuana's oldest cemeteries -- one of which serves as the resting place of the city’s unofficial folk saint, Juan Soldado -- where an urban legend historian will be on hand to tell us his controversial tale and more about the border city's unique adaptation of this quintessential Mexican holiday. We’ll also visit the crypts at San Francisco Asís, the oldest church in the city, followed by sugar skull shopping at Mercado Miguel Hidalgo, Tijuana's oldest open-air market and home of its largest Día de los Muertos altar. And, in keeping with the culinary traditions of the season, we’ll finish up with mole pizza at El Taller, house of gourmet Baja Med pies housed in a midcentury warehouse, plus a round of mezcal.
Tickets include roundtrip border transportation, lunch, and mezcal tasting. The group meets in San Ysidro at 10 a.m., with an estimated return to the border at 5 p.m. turistalibre.com.
