Esmeralda and the Hunchback
City Ballet kicks off its new season with an exciting, genre-blending program. Victor Hugo's classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame comes to life in the poignant new ballet Esmeralda and the Hunchback. Set to music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Mark Schneider's ballet explores different aspects of love and obsession. The Raymonda Variations is an opulent classical ballet showstopper highlighting the skillful elegance of the company. Resident choreographer Elizabeth Wistrich premieres her innovative Bowed Piano, which translates the unusual sounds of a piano's inner workings into movement. Fellow resident choreographer Geoff Gonzalez also premieres his Treatment, an all-female piece exploring the relationship between artists, their heartache and their work.
