India's Deccan Courts: Five great sultanates ruled over the Deccan, in central India, at the same time as the Mughal Empire, producing wonderful paintings, textiles, and metalwork.
Marika Sardar, Associate Curator of Southern Asian and Islamic art, will introduce the arts from these five courts, the subject of a recent exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The lecture will present new discoveries and research made in the course of preparing for the exhibition and will highlight the paintings from The San Diego Museum of Art that traveled to New York.
