G Burns Jug Band and the Americans
Two of SoCal's best Americana bands together at Seven Grand, in North Park. The G Burns Jug Band plays old American music with an intensity and authenticity rarely heard today: urban blues, mountain fiddle, and popular music of the nineteen-twenties and thirties. Based in San Diego, G Burns is led by multi-instr umentalist and native Kentuckian Clinton Davis, who grew up hearing jug band music in its birthplace of Louisville. The Americans perform original rock & roll with deep roots in traditional American music. Formed in Los Angeles in 2010, they have toured the United States, twice accompanying Grammy and Oscar-winner Ryan Bingham. They recently recorded three new songs with producer Hal Willner (Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainwright, U2). In 2013 The Americans performed on the Late Show with David Letterman in support of their appearance on Hal Willner’s Son of Rogue's Gallery (ANTI Records). Reviewing the album in April’s Believer magazine, critic Greil Marcus wrote, “The Americans [are] led by Patrick Ferris, whose deep voice doesn't sound like Richard Manuel's but feels like it.”
