Black Civil War Reenactment
330 Park Boulevard, San Diego, 92101
Cost: Free
Professor Patricia Davis of Georgia State University discusses the little known world of African American Civil War reenactors.
Black reenactors were unheard of 50 years ago during the Civil War centennial. But the story of the reenactors has emerged in the past 20 years thanks to new scholarship on Black Civil War troops, the 1989 movie Glory which tells the story of the all-black 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, and Ken Burns’s PBS documentary on the Civil War.
