Roger Reynolds's 80th Birthday Celebration
Russell Lane at Gilman Drive, San Diego, 92037
Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Roger Reynolds's 80th birthday will be celebrated at UC San Diego with a symposium (Feb. 3), concert (Feb. 4), and multimedia installation (Feb. 3-5). The concert is part of the music department's ongoing Wednesdays@7 series and will feature the Arditti Quartet, based in London, performing music written by Reynolds for string quartet and electronics.
The concert will also include music penned by two composers who studied with Reynolds at UC San Diego: Chaya Czernowin, now the Walter Bigelow Rosen Professor of Music at Harvard University, and Ben Hackbarth (photo below, by Liam Jamason), head of composition at the University of Liverpool.
