Desert Living: Water & Energy in the Desert
The Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association in Borrego Springs announces “Desert Living 2015: Water and Energy” featuring experts in science and technology.
On the topic of water: Jay Famiglietti is a senior NASA and JPL water scientist and widely regarded as one of the top hydrologists in the world studying groundwater depletion using satellite imagery. Famiglietti appears frequently in the international media and speaks worldwide on the future of water resources. He will present two programs in Borrego Springs, one on groundwater reserves and the other on the geology of aquifers, the underground structures that hold that water.
On the topic of energy: Tom Bialek, Chief Engineer of Smart Grid Technologies, Sempra Energy, is among the most knowledgeable engineers in America directly working with the technologies and the science behind the energy issues of today and the future: solar, microgrids, smart grids, distributed generation, transmission, renewables, and battery storage. 320 million individual Americans and all of America’s businesses and government depend on an electrical system that is secure and dependable. Learn the science and technology of how electricity is generated and delivered to your home now and how that technology will change in the future.
On the topic of geothermal: Vince Signorotti, VP with EnergySource, is an expert on geothermal resources at the Salton Sea, the history, the challenges, how it all works, and where it might be headed in the years ahead.
