Construction and Fall of the Berlin Wall
7265 Jackson Drive, San Diego, 92119
Cost: Free
November 9 will mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Local author J. Elke Ertle lived in Berlin at the time the wall was hastily erected one weekend in August of 1961.
In her talk, Ertle will shed light on events that led to its construction and developments that led to its fall. Her presentation will include photos of the post-WWII conditions in Berlin and the reading of an excerpt from her book, Walled-In: A West Berlin Girl's Journey to Freedom. The selection conveys the panic that clutched Berliners that fateful Sunday in August.
