The technical study, cleaning, and restoration of paintings, is one element of art historian John Marciari's work on a catalogue of the museum's Italian, Spanish, and French paintings before 1850. This lecture will examine some of the conservation work undertaken in recent years, and outline a number of the discoveries and decisions made during the treatments.
