Film Forum: Carnival of Souls (1962)
Ingmar Bergman meets the Twilight Zone. Herk Harvey's low budget expressionistic gem features striking black-and-white composition, disorienting dream sequences and eerie atmosphere. The only "survivor" after a car plunges into a river is continually confronted by a ghostly apparition mysteriously connected to an abandoned carnival pavilion.
